Three Pieces Of Restaurant Equipment That Will Draw The Health Enthusiast Crowd

Posted on: 10 May 2017

If you are looking to draw in the health enthusiast crowd to your restaurant, then you need to take a look at your kitchen and determine what sort of new equipment you will need. People who are looking to eat healthy also want to eat out, so it's a good idea to try and capture some of that audience by making sure your kitchen can serve up healthy food. So, you will need to expand your kitchen inventory beyond the stove, deep fryer, and salamander. You want to be able to serve up a variety of health dishes, including some "raw" foods. Here's a list of what you should consider adding to the kitchen.

Masticating Juicer

A masticating juicer is great for a whole lot of reasons. First, and most obviously, you can serve up fresh juices. This includes classics such as orange juice, pineapple, and apple, but also the more difficult to find "green" juices. Things such as kale, spinach, and even wheat grass. People who are super into healthy food love green juices, so if they see that your restaurant serves fresh green drinks made with organic ingredients, and you also have some great health food, then they might make it a regular lunch spot.

The other great thing about masticating juicers is that they can make things besides juice. You can make fresh nut butters, including walnut, cashew, and almond, which are popular with people who avoid peanuts because of aflatoxins. Also, you can get attachments for the juicer that can make fresh pasta using vegetables (zucchini pasta, for instance) which is great to put on the menu for people who are on a low-carb diet. There are also attachments that will let you make fresh fruit sorbets, and even raw coconut creams for use in uncooked sauces.

Food Dehydrator

Dried fruit and vegetables are an awesome addition to all sorts of dishes, such as pastas, salads, and even desserts. However, commercially prepared dried fruit and vegetables will often have artificial preservatives of drying agents used in the preparation. Many health enthusiasts shy away from mass produced dried fruit and vegetables for this reason. So, if your restaurant is able to advertise dried fruits or vegetables made without any sulfates or drying agents, you will get lots of enthusiastic responses.

Sous Vide Machine

A sous vide machine is a device that you will see in many of the best restaurants in the world. It's a device that allows for food that is sealed inside of a plastic bag to be cooked in a water bath. It sounds rather low tech, but you'd be astonished to see how many Michelin stared chefs swear by it. The vacuum sealed packs trap in the flavor of the food, allowing for a super intense flavor. It also allows for cooking without exposure to high heat such as what is commonly used with saucepan cuisine, frying, and broiling. This is great for health conscious fans who are concerned about high heat exposure because of cancer concerns.
